Portland Oregon is in need of an R&B radio station. This is the time to take advantage and make quality programming for the loyal urban listener that does not have a local radio outlet that fits their listening tastes and commercial needs. Portland has a substantial amount of product for the urban market place, but does not have a proper radio outlet promoting and selling there product. With an R&B station directed at women 25-54 we can supply quality entertainment for the community and a powerful outlet for advertisers trying to reach the urban buyer.

The Beat will be a positive force in a community that doesn’t have radio representation of strong leadership values. With warm inviting personalities that push positivity, self awareness, community outreach, and leadership this city will never be the same.

Tom Joyner Morning Show: 5am-9am
Founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation, BlackAmericaWeb.com, and host of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, Tom Joyner Sr., is considered one of the most influential, inspirational, and dynamic personalities in the country. From small, southern Tuskegee, Alabama, this 1999 Radio Hall of Fame inductee has ignited a sense of pride in the hearts of seven million listeners in more than 120 radio markets, instilling in us the significance of unity and giving back to one's community. Savoy magazine's 2002 Person of the Year, Joyner requires that each person who attends his city-to-city "sky show" bring proof of voter registration...or register at the door. He and members of his crew also have prompted major companies to stop discriminating against African Americas and Hispanics in advertising and are in the trenches with the U.S. Department of Health and Human services, raising health awareness among African Americans. But Joyner doesn't stop there. His Tom Joyner Foundation, a charitable, non-profit organization, was started in 1997 for the sake of African American students in need at Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the nation. The foundation has raised more than $12 million to date for this single cause. The four-time Billboard magazine award winner's most recent venture is BlackAmericaWeb.com, which was created in June 2001 to encourage interaction between African Americans and as an easy-to-use, comprehensive well of information on the African-American experience. The web site is a highly recommended source for the latest, credible news and views, ranging from black business and commerce to the basic activities of daily life. The main goal is to mobilize the African-American community through healthy information, thoughtful entertainment, and star-inspired empowerment. A graduate of Tuskegee University, Joyner began his broadcasting career in Montgomery, Alabama, at WRMA-AM immediately after graduation. With a bachelor's of science in sociology in hand, he ventured into several other markets, including WLOK-AM in Memphis; KWK-AM in St. Louis; KKDA-FM in Dallas; and four different stations in Chicago. Finally, in the mid-1980's Joyner made is claim to fame when he accepted simultaneous positions as "morning drive man' at Dallas' KKDA and "afternoon drive man" at Chicago's WGCI. Flying everyday between the two cities to work eventually earned him national recognition, the name "Fly Jock," seven million frequent flyer miles, syndication and undoubtedly the largest audience of any urban radio program. Joyner's success as a radio personality and philanthropist has earned him several awards and honors, including four Billboard magazine's Best Urban Contemporary Air Personality awards and Impact magazine's Joe Loris Award for Excellence in Broadcasting. Joyner was named Impact's Best DJ of the Year so many times that this honor has been renamed the Tom Joyner Award. Other notable honors include the congressional Black Caucus' Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award, 100 Black Men's Man of the Year award, the NAACP's President's Award, and the Harold Washington Award for his tireless efforts in the Census 2002 campaign.


Michael Baisden: 9am-2pm
When it comes to entertaining, enlightening and educating, no one in talk radio compares to Michael Baisden. His high-octane energy and love for interacting with his listeners is just one reason for the popularity and success of The Michael Baisden Show. The Bad Boy ignites heated discussions with explosive episodic themes like: Living Your Dream, Your Body Is Your Temple, and Pimps In The Pulpit.
His radio career began in 2003 when 98.7 KISS FM in New York City offered him a position as the afternoon drive-time host. Because of budget constraints the station was unable to offer him a salary. Michael's response was, "Just give me the damned mic!" And sure enough, within six months, their afternoon drive ratings went from number 9 to number 1.
After eight months of consistent high ratings, Michael suggested taking his show national but management was apprehensive, suggesting that New York wasn't ready. A few months later, Michael threatened to quit if management did not pursue a syndication deal. "There was no doubt in my mind that I could have one of the hottest shows on radio! I knew the impact it would have on people all across the country and I wasn't taking no, for an answer," Michael rebutted.
His vibrant personality on and off the air has made him a people magnet. He began attracting attention with primarily female followers as author and publisher of the highly successful provocative books: "Never Satisfied: How and Why Men Cheat", "Men Cry in the Dark", "The Maintenance Man", and lastly "God's Gift to Women". Two of his titles ultimately were adapted into stage plays.
But his proudest moment came on September 20, 2007, when he passionately and skillfully spearheaded the famous Jena 6 March in Jena, Louisiana. This historic and momentous occasion garnered tens of thousands citizens of all races to peacefully marched in support of six young men who have been unfairly treated by the justice system. In addition, he urged millions of listeners to wear black on September 20 in protest of unequal justice. The news traveled throughout the country, everyone wore black in support of the Jena 6, from college students of all races to corporate executives.
2008 was another historic year. In late January Michael endorsed Sen. Barack Obama in the democratic primary against Sen. Hillary Clinton. Sen. Obama ultimately won and went on to defeat Sen. John McCain in general election on November 4. Michael celebrated with over 4,000 fans at a watch party in Miami on election night. The Obama camp along with millions of listeners credited Michael with being one of the major forces behind this historic victory to elect the first African American to the Presidency of the United States.
The Bad Boy continues to entertain, enlighten and educate as he pursues one of his first dreams, to have his novels adapted to major Motion pictures. The other dream was to host a Late Night Talk show. He got that chance in the fall of 2007, when he partnered with TV One to host and co-executive produce "Baisden After Dark," featuring comedian George Willborn and band leader Morris Day. The show was a smash hit, breaking records for viewers on the black owned network.

My gift is communication. God has called me to call you. He has placed within me an incredible ability to connect with the potential that lies inside you. If you have a desire to see the potential that is inside of you come out of you, then we need to connect for “excellence.”

Yes i definitely think portland needs a better radio station and r&b at that. I think its great that you have come up with this idea. Ive been hoping for this. Portland needs something way better than just 107.5 and 100.3. If you need any help with anything let me know. I am currently going to school to get my degree in business and can help with promoting the radio station etc.. get at me.

clearchannel's 105.9 or the newly acquired 106.7 they just got from CBS have simialr formats, so they could change one of them up. i know they got jammin now but their needs to be some variety on the dial. in cincinnati, they have a station similar which plays current and old school r&b. i think it could have a positive impact on the community because their is not enough quality black music being heard except from what you hear from the top 40 rhythmic stations. good luck and hope you suceed in your mission...
